the blooming fields
experience a bright life as a flower
an mmo with a peaceful time
Development Details
- Initially created in an afternoon at the MADE for she built this jam
- Bug & UX fixes performed at home after the jam (had to cheat a little :P)
- Backend built in golang, frontend in godot 4.6.1
- Netcode borrowed & modified from @vaporwario
- Photos taken by me, sometime last year probably
- Aesprite and GIMP used for sprites and textures
- Blender used for flower model + animation and terrain
This was my first solo jam on a such a tight time limit (my initial goal was to get everything done during the couple hours I was at the MADE), so I gave myself a tiny design scope: a multiplayer game where you can't move. From the theme of awakening I imagined a field of flowers blooming and I thought it could be interesting if players had no incentive other than to see their flowers grow and watch the field slowly fill up. I'm not sure it's actually very interesting to play! However, because I like friction in games, I also made chatting with other players tied to the size of your flower. You start too small for others to read your text, and by the time you've actually managed to get into the conversation your words will have outgrown the size of the text box. It kinda sucks! I hope people get something out of that.
